Tale of the Week – Season 3 – Week 3

Welcome back to the Originals blog. This week I will be recapping the action that unfolded this week and letting you know which players have been lighting it up and letting you down.

Going into week three, we had five teams left in search of that ‘perfect’ 16-0 season; the Chargers, Falcons, Broncos, Bears and Titans. No-one was really surprised that the Chargers and Falcons were unbeaten given that they were playoff teams last year but the Bears and Titans came as a major shock after both teams had done a Panzer impersonation last year. The Falcons travelled to the Saints and were blown-out 3-31; the Saints D was the difference notching six sacks and five takeaways. The other unbeaten sides continued their streaks. The Titans made a big statement knocking off last year’s AFC Conference runner up Jaguars 27-3; Blake Bortles let his side down throwing three interceptions.  The AFC Championship winning Chargers continued their excellence breezing past the Bills 24-10 who were once again let down by their QB Drew Brees who threw five picks! One of the biggest surprises of the season to date – the Broncos – easily won 31-13 vs the Colts, FA signing Dion Lewis showed his value putting up 2 TDs and 108 yards rushing. The Bears crushed the Vikings 27-7 in a defensive masterclass the 85’ Bears would be proud of; holding the Vikings to just 52 passing yards.

On the other end of the success scale, we had five teams heading towards the ‘imperfect’ 0-16 season; the Buccaneers, Ravens, Redskins, Packers and Rams. No-one expected to see the Buccaneers, Ravens and Rams start like this with the latter two former Superbowl teams and the Buccaneers a talented team who had been on the rise.  The Redskins and Packers are no strangers to this position but both have improved steadily despite their records over the last two seasons. The Buccs suffered arguably the worst result of the week getting smashed 41-20 by the Steelers, the Buccs had no answer to Pittsburgh’s running game allowing 187 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. The Rams and Ravens both got their first wins of the season. The Rams ground out a 17-6 win over the Cards while the Ravens took care of the Chiefs 24-7. Both teams’ defences balled out, the Rams picking off the Cards 4 times and the Raven’s NFZ sacking the QB 8 times. The Packers were the nearly team again getting beat 17-15 off the Pats while the Giants won 30-15 over the Redskins.

In the rest of this week’s games. The Bengals continued their promising start beating the Browns 12-3 despite their lethargic passing game. Raider nation continued its hot start with a 33-16 win over the Jets; that man Mack again destroyed a team single handed getting two sacks and a pick.  The Ryan Tannehill Lions somehow beat Cam Newton’s Panthers 27-15. A 2-14 record is still on the cards for the 49ers despite a strong 27-3 win over the Seahawks. The game most likely to be a sim was won by the Eagles over the Cowboys 24-10. Finally, the Texans continue to mean business this season winning 24-21 over the Dolphins.
