Live Thread - Week 12

Its thanksgiving week and the play-offs (that word will be used a lot) are getting close, its a bumper week of nfl on TV starting tomorrow:

Thursday 22nd November
5:30 - Sky Sports - :HOU: @ :DET:
In a massive game the Texans will be desperate to get the W as they can qualify for the play-offs (see bottom of the page for the scenarios that will result in the Texans qualification). The Lions are desperate for a win to keep any play-off hopes alive.

9:15 - Sky Sports - :WAS: @ :DAL:
The Cowboys can put huge pressure on the Giants with a win and just about scraped past the Browns in week 11. The Redskins may not have play-off hopes but are on the up and are enjoying their role as spoilers and season destroyers (see week 11)!

1:20 - Sky Sports - :NE: @ :NYJ:
The Patriots are on top of the AFC East and are hoping of a home tie in the play-offs so will need to keep rolling to ensure that happens and hope results go their way. The Jets are an absolute mess but were able to win last week, Rex Ryan might not be on the hot seat but needs performances to keep the pressure off.

Sunday 25th November
6:00 - Sky Sports - :MIN: @ :CHI:
Its deja-vu for the Bears; the play-offs are within touching distance but starting QB is injured again and they are relying on a back-up to keep their season together. Will the Bears offensive line hold up versus Jared Allen and co. The Vikings are fresh after a bye and also have play-off aspirations, Adrian Peterson is carrying the offense and leads the league in rushing yards.

9:00 - Sky Sports - :SF: @
Another heavy weight clash, the 49ers are looking for back to back play-off apperances and came up big in week 12 with back-up/ starter Colin Kapernick. The Saints are on a 3 game winning streak and after a dodgy start have shown their quality recently to get back in the play-off hunt!

1:20am - Channel 4 -
:GB: @ :NYG:
Green Bay were put down after early losses but have steadily made their way to the top of NFC North; Aaron Rodgers is back to his best and has not had a QB rating of below 95 since week 3. The Giants are back in action after a bye and desperately need a win to stop a 2 game skid and keep distance between themselves and Dallas

Monday 26th November
1:20am - BBC Red Button - :CAR: @ :PHI:
Both teams started the season with optimism but it has been a very different story. Andy Reid is fighting for his job and the Panthers are desperate to get some more wins on the board. This could have been a belter but has very little significance apart from to fans of those teams.

:HOU: are in if:
1) Titans loss or tie + Dolphins loss or tie + Jets loss or tie + Bengals loss + Chargers loss or tie OR

2) Titans loss or tie + Dolphins loss or tie + Jets loss or tie + Bengals loss or tie + Steelers loss.

2014 make or break year for the Ravens offense. More like 2013 and there are going to be big changes!

That 4th down play was very good for the Ravens.

Now on to Colin Kaepernick. First interception this season and he ran for a TD.

Well good job :CLE: :tumbleweed:

That's weird. The Giants didn't even let Green Bay get back in it so they could give Eli another 4th Quarter Game-winning drive?

I've seen teams give up on coaches before, but this Philly team looks to be in a class of it's own. If they're down 10+ at any point then it could get really ugly. (Not that Gruden will say that. I'm setting the O/U of "crawling remarks to Philly fans/owner to try and get that coaching job" at 1,562.5)

Ok, the Jets players deserved a lot of abuse after their appalling 2nd quarter. But the "Tebow save us!" thing is just one step too far!!

Crazy idea. But also an amazing idea.

The negotiating rights for NCAA head coaches go into the NFL Draft. So at 1, KC could pick Geno Smith, or the right to negotiate with Chip Kelly.

You'd have to exempt HC's from the rookie cap. and give them a salary cap exemption/lower hit, but it would be such an intrigue. Wouldn't a team like Philly, with a lot of talent but a Lame Duck HC, move up to get the unchallenged rights to talk to their NCAA HC of choice!?!

You can't be fair to Cam. It isn't allowed. Every single facial expression has to be analysed several times over on sportscenter. Every nod or wink is freeze-framed and hung up on Tim Hasselbeck's wall. I guess it's because Tebow has been a non-factor in NY and they need to fill "hyperbole time" with something or somebody.

Oh yeah, I don't mean anything by it, 2012 Cam is still lightyears ahead of anything we could have at QB this year - just mean he's not been as good as last year. Granted he was awesome and it'd have taken a lot to surpass what he did last year.

Playing for the teams they do and not being highly touted out of college they've got pretty much no chance.

To think Atkins went in the same draft as Suh and McCoy, if either of these to were putting up his numbers the media exposure would be so much greater.

If were talking about giving love to unsung heros, Bobby Wagner the hawks rookie LB has been immense this season. Think he is 11 tackles away from our rookie record, has 90 on the season, 2 sacks, 1 interception (should be 2 after that BS call on sunday) and is playing great ball......wont even get a sniff becuae kucheley is hogging the MLB limelight, and righltey so, he too is a beast but Wagner has never had a mention in the national media

It's a numbers game.

Watt's been able to put up the numbers (as Sapp and Bruce Smith did before him) from unusual positions, partially due to talent but also because their scheme allows them the freedom to do so.

"Things have not been completely harmonious on the defensive front during this seven-game slide. According to a source, a frustrated Trent Cole walked out during a defensive line meeting recently. Behind the Wide-9, the defense compiled 50 sacks a year ago. This season they have just 18 — the same number Babin got all by himself last year.

Some players were apparently rubbed the wrong way by the Washburn-Babin relationship, feeling that he was treated a bit differently than the rest of them. Babin is now gone. And it’s very possible Washburn will be as well in the near future."

It's crazy if they get rid of Washburn. He's been a hugely successful DL coach. One off year does not undo all the work he's done in Tennessee and Philly.

It's a strange one. That's probably the best line Washburn's ever had yet it's the least effective he's ever had. He seems to do better with scrubs.

Q for Oli, did Washburn run the wide 9 in Nashville?

Bobby Wagner has been great, but Kuechly doesn't have close to the DL protecting him and he's still making all the plays.
It's a numbers game.

Watt's been able to put up the numbers (as Sapp and Bruce Smith did before him) from unusual positions, partially due to talent but also because their scheme allows them the freedom to do so.
Atkins has 9 sacks and 3 ff. He's putting up big numbers.
Big numbers for a DT, but the voters don't care it's easier for a DE to get sacks.

We don't do walking away!
Atkins isn't a loud mouth and the Bengals aren't sexy. Atkins could finish with 20 sacks and he still wouldn't be considered.

I've hit the point where I'm not just weighing up potential draftees.

I watch little college football so I'm reduced to reading Kiper and Mcshay. Hopefully we'll be top of the teams hunting left tackles and either jump up to get the top one (who's apparently good) or at least a decent one.

If we don't get a left tackle then I may have to, be disappointed, or something.

FUCK THAT!!! It was an iffy call at the time. Was clear that the intention from Thomas was to bat the pass. And not only that but Tannehill was well out of the pocket. Can't believe he's getting fined. :nono:

On Atkins, the guy showed flashes last year but has been incredibly consistent this year. Yea he's not as talked about as Suh, but if I was picking a 4-3 DT I think he'd be my clear No. 1 now.
8 teams put in a claim for Babin but it's Jacksonville who get him. Would love to know who the others were but it's not been released as far as I know.

Can see the Jags looking to move him for a pick in the off-season cos I highly doubt he'd want to re-sign there after saying he wants to play for a winner.
